Hair Loss Causes and prevention defined

As per the research findings
Lack of sleep and exercise were common factors among patients below 30 years, say trichologists, who also conclude that patients with a strong family history of baldness experienced premature baldness as early as 18 years of age. Blood samples collected from patients were analyzed to get to the root cause of premature balding and acute hair loss. Researchers have zeroed in on some of the reasons:

* Poor GI (glycemic index) - sub-normal functioning of intestines in more than 50% patients, which is a direct result of water contamination.

* Poor liver, as revealed by a liver function test.

* More than required levels of zinc in the blood which could be attributed to high levels of zinc in groundwater or use of galvanized vessels in cooking and hormonal imbalance.

Higher ZINC levels in blood  and intake of water with higher content of metals is another reason for the same.

Do's and Dont's

1. Exercise and hair fall

One of the main reasons for hair fall is stress. Stress produces a hormone called cortisone which causes hair follicles to stop growing and results in thinning of hair. Exercise reduces cortisone levels in the body by increasing blood circulation throughout the body.

Exercise increases a hormone called serotonin, which decreases cortisone level and decreases hair fall.

An increase in blood cholesterol and blood sugar has been documented to increase the dihydrosterone hormone sensitivity of hair follicles, which cause androgenetic or male pattern baldness. Exercise reduces blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels and decreases hair fall.

2.Excessive oil in scalp

Hair follicles contain sebaceous glands which secrete sebum (an oily substance) which keeps the scalp naturally oily. On application of excessive oil, the scalp becomes a nidus for secondary fungal and bacterial infection causing hair fall. Oiling should be restricted to half-an-hour massage in the morning, followed by a wash with a mild shampoo.

3. Seven hours of uninterrupted sleep every day is a must for all age groups.

Reasons of Hair Loss

The normal cycle of hair growth lasts for 2 to 3 years. Each hair grows approximately 1 centimeter per month during this phase. About 90 percent of the hair on your scalp is growing at any given time. About 10 percent of the hair on your scalp, at any given time, is in a resting phase. After 3 to 4 months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place.

However, some people may experience excessive (more than normal) hair loss. Hair loss may lead to baldness when the rate of shedding exceeds the rate of re- growth.

Some of the causes for hair loss:

Aging: After the age of 30 (and often before), men and women both start losing hair, though men tend to do so at a faster rate.

Poor nutrition: Having inadequate protein or iron or zinc in your diet or poor nourishment in other ways can cause you to experience hair loss. Fad diets, crash diets and certain illnesses, such as eating disorders, can cause poor nutrition.

Styling: Shampooing, blow drying and brushing your hair often can cause a few strands of hair to fall out. In case of excess hair fall, consult a dermatologist for the proper guidance.

Medical treatments: Undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy may cause hair loss. After your treatment ends, your hair typically begins to re-grow.

Hereditary hair loss: Genetic hair loss isn't due to excessive amounts of hair falling out, as many believe, but due to an insufficient amount of hair growing back to replace the hair that have been shed. Hereditary baldness is associated with factors like gender, age and hormones.

Hormonal changes: Hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss. This could be due to stress, pregnancy, childbirth, discontinuation of birth control pills, the onset of menopause, or an overactive or underactive thyroid gland. Correcting hormonal imbalances may reduce hair loss.

Scalp infection: Infections, such as ringworm, can invade the hair and skin of your scalp, leading to hair loss. Once infections are treated, hair generally grows back. Ringworm, a fungal infection, can usually be treated with a topical or oral antifungal medication. Consult a dermatologist for appropriate treatment.

Take care of hair and be healthy in mind.

Hair Care

Regular Care of Hair: Taking care of hair is in fact much the same as taking care of skin. An effective hair care discipline involves cleansing, toning and conditioning routines carried out with religious regularity.

1. Care Of Oily Hair And Scalp Condition: The principle of care for oily hair and scalp condition is the same as used for oily skin condition. The routine aims at removing the excess oil and to exfoliate skin cells which clogs up and suffocate the hair follicles in our scalp. The emphasis is laid on cleansing and toning routines. Since the hair has to be washed as frequently as it gets dirty and oily, a natural shampoo on a formulation of herbs such as amla, shikakai, reetha, trijla is ideal. Massaging hair and scalp is important for the well being as well as good growth of the hair. For dry hair, scalp massaging with oil is recommended. For oily hair massaging with toning lotion is suitable.

Home-made Cosmetics For Oily Hair:

A. Take some dry soap nuts(reetha) and soak them in water overnight. Mash them in the morning and strain the soapy solution. Add a tsp of shikakai powder and wash your hair. If you are unable to make the shampoo cleanser at home, use this infusion recipe. Prepare it and mix in the shampoo you use.

B.To make the infusion, boil two handfuls of mint leaves in one and a half glass of water for 20 minutes. Strain the solution and mix in a 300ml bottle of shampoo.

Toning Lotion For Oily Hair:

Mix a tbsp of Malt Vinegar in a glass of water. Add a pinch of salt in it. Use 2 tbsps of it on your scalp and massage it with your finger tips twice a week. Leave the lotion on for one hour. Rinse with cool water, brush and set your hair.

2. Care For Dry Hair: Dry hair tends to be thin and rough. It is susceptible to tangles, damage, breakage and split ends. The primary aim is to replenish the oil and the moisture in the hair.

Home-made Cosmetic Care For Dry Hair: Below are given few natural recipes that are time-tested.

The Gentle Cleanser: Beat an egg in a cup of the skimmed milk. When the foam becomes consistent, rub it into the scalp. Leave it on for 5 minutes. Rinse the hair thoroughly with water. Carry out this routine twice a week.

The Protein Conditioner: Beat one tbsp of castor oil, one tbsp of glycerine, one tbsp of cider vinegar and a tsp of mild herbal shampoo. Apply it on scalp and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with clear water.

A Special Massage Oil Toner : Buy a bottle of castor oil or coconut oil. Add a tsp of lavender essential oil in it. Heat a little and massage it gently on your scalp at night. Rinse or shampoo it out in the morning. Follow this routine at least twice a week.
